Best Places To Retire Around The World

If you are interested in the best places to retire in the world, here's good news-there are many from which to choose. Some are located here in the United States, some in central or South America, three are in Europe and one is in Southeast Asia. So what are the best places to retire around the world?

Thailand

Thailand is a great choice if you are interested in retiring to an exotic land. Its culture, history and traditions are much different than ours. Thailand has become a very popular destination area for tourists and retirees over the past few years. Its climate is tropical and it offers a very low cost of living versus United States.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica offers an amazing variety of exotic flora and fauna and one of its biggest attractions is tours through its rain forests. Costa Rica also has beaches, mountains for hiking and trekking. It offers many things to do such as fishing, surfing, kayaking, hiking, biking and more. Costa Rica's major city is San Jose.

Belize

This country is located on Central America's eastern coast and has incredibly beautiful beaches along the Caribbean. It also has mountains that have some of the oldest Mayan cities to be found in Central America. Belize has one of the lowest costs of living in the Caribbean and if you are a retiree, you get low-cost or even free medical and dental care.

Ecuador

This country straddles the equator so that it gets exactly 12 hours of daylight every day of the year. Its economy is based on the US dollar, making it easy for Americans to make financial transactions. The countries low cost of living is such that a person could actually live there on only $17,000 a year.

Argentina

Argentina has cosmopolitan cities, a lively culture and gorgeous landscapes. If you love the out-of-doors, you can traverse the Patagonian Steppe, climb South America's highest peak or even walk among thousands of penguins. Argentina's major city, Buenos Ares, is lively and vibrant and Argentina's cost of living is cheaper than here that of the US.

Nicaragua

Nicaragua is a beautiful country and its capital, Managua, is a first-class city with many fine restaurants, entertainment centers and shops. Lake Nicaragua has great water sports and fishing. The country's climate is hot and humid with a summer dry season that runs from mid-November through mid-May.

Florida

Florida may not be as cheap a place to live as a Panama but it is very affordable and offers the benefit of being in the United States. Florida has a great climate in towns like Sarasota, Winter Park, Key West and Jacksonville that all offer a great lifestyle and many recreational opportunities.

North Carolina

The state has become one of the country's most popular places to live. It stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Blue Ridge Mountains so offers an incredible variety of things to do outdoors. Property costs in North Carolina are reasonable and it has a four-season climate but not one of them is very extreme.

Mexico

This next-door neighbor has a subtropical climate though the weather tends to be more temperate close to the Pacific Ocean or Caribbean. Mexico has had problems recently but most of them are around its border with the US. Once you get down further south into Mexico, these problems mostly disappear and what's left are picturesque villages, beautiful beaches and friendly, welcoming people.

Panama

This might be just the best place in the world to retire to or to live in. It has rain forests, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean. Panama is said to have the fastest growing economy in Central Amount and has become a center for international business. The Panama Canal generates so much revenue every Panamanian citizen receives a large sum of money every year. As a result, poverty has all but been eliminated.

France

This country is an amazing place to live because of its museums, cosmopolitan restaurants, sun and sand along the Mediterranean and its beautiful, rolling countryside. Housing in Paris can be on the expensive side but once you get out into the countryside it becomes fairly affordable. Healthcare in France is some of the best in the world.

Australia

Australia has very little pollution, a great climate and a reasonable cost of living. Plus, it has so much space you are never going to feel crowded by neighbors. Housing is fairly expensive in Australia's major cities but once you get outside the metropolitan areas, housing is much more affordable.

Croatia

If you're not familiar with Croatia it is because it used to be part of Yugoslavia. After this country broke up, Croatia became an independent country that is relaxed, beautiful and unspoiled. It has 1185 islands, and Jacques Cousteau once described the waters as the cleanest and clearest in the world. Many Europeans consider Croatia to be one of the continent's loveliest treasures.

Spain

Spain offers much in the way of recreation, culture and art. You can participate in water sports, mountaineering, boating, ballooning, kayaking or go on an eco tour. Spain has amazing cathedrals, castles and modernistic monuments. It has also given the world artists such as El Greco and Diego Velazquez and remains a center for the arts.

Italy

Think of Italy and the first thing that probably comes to your mind is Italian cooking which is absolutely amazing. In addition to its culinary arts, Italy has beautiful, timelessly classic countryside and its people are quite welcoming. Italy is a treasure trove of historic architecture, some of which dates back to the days of Rome. It has cathedrals, villas and fountains, as well as the Coliseum and other fascinating ruins.

Hopefully now you have an idea of some "possibles" for your list of places to retire around the world.
