Thailand Cost of Living

Think of Retirement in Thailand

Thailand has become one of the prominent places to retire among the baby-boomers thinking of retiring soon. Tropical climate, picturesque beaches, delicious cuisine and extremely low cost of living are just some of the many positive features of Thailand. Now let's take a look at some of the facilities which you consider while considering a place for living and retirement.

Banking Facilities:

All major banks have their branches in Thailand. Moreover, considering you shall be having your major chunk of money in banks at your homeland, wire transfer facilities are available from almost all the banks. You can use your ATM card and withdraw money if international withdrawals are not prohibitively charged. You can also use exchange kiosks which are spread throughout the country, they display exchange rates, commission rates and thus becomes easy for you to exchange your currency into Thai Bahts - the local currency. The banking system is also quite robust and so you can think of even transferring all your earnings to Thai Bank Account.

Standard of Living:

Thailand has got all the amenities which foreigners or the first world country dwellers take them to be granted. Thailand has got major food chains like KFC, McDonalds, Subway, etc. They all sell the same menu with prices cheaper by 50% in many cases. You can also see global grocery chains like TESCO, Carrefour, Wal-Mart etc selling you the same things at a rate which is half of what you buy in your country. Thai food is world renowned and can be an attraction for a gourmet foodie. Besides that, western food can be procured easily with western ambience everywhere in Thailand. Real estate prices are also quite cheap. Beach front properties range from 6 - 8 million Thai bahts or 120,000-150,000 pounds or $180,000 to $224,000 USD. This is very cheap compared to San Diego or Florida beachfront property prices. Public transport, though slow is quite well developed with a network of taxis, private bus services, trains connecting each and every place.

Medical Facilities:

Thailand has got excellent medical facilities at par to be found in western countries. The doctors and the support staff are mainly US trained, very efficient, no waiting time and treatment is available at a fraction of the cost of which is done in the United States or Europe. Thailand, specifically markets itself as a medical tourism destination due to this. Many choose to have all their plastic and cosmetic surgery done here to save thousands. Thai massage is one of the other famous therapies. Thai massage parlours are spread all around the country offering variety of quality massage services as well as touch related therapies.

Hobbies And Things To Do In Thailand:

Thailand has a whole host of activities to offer for people who want to spend time on their hobbies or activities they always thought of doing but never had the time until you retired. Golf lovers have excellent golfing facilities in Thailand. Besides that Thailand also offers Scuba Diving, Snorkelling, Water Sports, fishing etc on its picturesque beaches. Phuket and Pattaya are the places wherein you can be a member of such clubs run by ex-pats and carry out year long activities related to your hobbies. Go-Karting, Jungle Safari, Ten Pin Bowling are some of the other exciting things which you can try your hands on. Thus, providing excellent & active retirement all around the year.
