Belize Cost of LivingThe cost of living in Belize may be high in some cases depending on your expenses. Also this place is not recommended for those retirees who have a tight budget. Even prices on various items are found more in Belize as compared to the USA. The monthly living cost in Belize runs between $2000-$4000 per month depending on where you want to live and whether you want to rent an apartment or condo or buy a home. The cost of living depends upon the travel, place of living and daily expenses. However; there are certain places as well where a retiree may find lower prices and a lower cost of living. Eating out and food items' cost is variable depending upon place and restaurant. The expensive food item in a restaurant costs not more than $50, however; a lobster dinner feast would be much cheaper in Belize. The cost of a sandwich is $2, beer and coffee costs $1 and red wine costs $15. Waste and garbage disposal costs in Belize up to $10, property maintained requires $10-20, cleaning service from housing development costs $100- 150 per year. A used car can be bought in Belize for up to $3,500 to $5,500. The water bill and electricity bill costs up to $25 and $5 respectively. The unit charges of electricity are additional which cost up to $.15 cents per Kilowatt hour (KWH) for the first 50 KWH and then increase with the increase of electricity utilization. Phone bill costs up to $13 -15 per month, however; international calls may add further costs but these can be offset using Skype VOIP services. A resident is required to pay $56 for phone installation at home and also required $75 for deposit as well. A valuable qualified retired person program is being operated in Belize and in order to qualify the program, a person should be of 45 years or older. A lot of benefits are offered to the retirees due to this program which needs some requirement. Many of the retirees in Belize acquired this program to live at lower cost. Belize has somewhat temperate climate, however; the weather remains pleasant the whole of the year. The people are friendly and like the presence of US citizens in the country. It may not be the best place to retire for all, but to many there are many reasons to fall in love with Belize.
